Good news, Rockers: Heavy Breathing’s new album, C.P.R., will stick a hot tongue in your mouth and bring you back to the land of the living.

C.P.R. sounds like Warrior on the Edge of Time-era ‪Hawkwind‬, Tales of Kid Funkadelic-era ‪Funkadelic‬ and the BBC Radiophonic Workshop-scored “Doctor Who” starring ‪George Clinton‬ as the Time Lord circa 1977. C.P.R. plays while George parties with disco mutants, cures mind-erasing syndromes, and smashes greedy fascist scumfucks into oblivion.

C.P.R. is the 3rd release from DC DIY rockers Heavy Breathing, a trio of musicians who put out records as the Apes from 2000-2007.

"C.P.R. Intro" gives translations for the titular acronym, besides cardiopulmonary resuscitation: clues to Heavy Breathings feelings about our times. Four potential acronyms are suggested:

1. Choose, Population, Reduction
2. Choose, Psychic, Reality
3. Control, Psychotic, Reaction
4. Clear, Plastic, Rose

Why are we choosing to destroy our world, destroy our communities, and reduce our population? Will choosing to live in our minds -- against nature -- help us survive on the road to destruction? When our backs are against the wall for so long that we lose our minds, can we exercise control? What is more artificially beautiful than a transparent rose, made of plastic, that will outlive us all and pollute our land and oceans for hundreds of years?

These wild songs have big distorted guitar riffs; pounding grooves; and loads of P-funk, space rock, and spooky synths happening to get you pumped.

On “ Psychic,” Puppet reminds us of Nostradamus’s predictions for the year 2000; then the band plays a Troutman brother’s Zapp-style bounce groove. There’s a very funky fat back beat on “Gonna Get You” with power chords and sing-song keyboard melodies. “In the Mood” has Ronald Wolf pounding out a thrashing motorik groove into a breakdown of explosions and screams.

This power trio has abandoned the idea of a living front person incarnate, and opted for a vocalist built in-the-box by Erick “Zeus” Jackson, guitarist and recorder of Heavy Breathing. The "vocalist"  on C.P.R. has many different voices: a blurry R&B style featured on “Do 2 Me”; Diamond Dave party calls on “In the Mood”; an invocation of ‪Michael McDonald‬’s fur-lined-yacht-throated backing vocals on "Keep On"; and “POL” uses deep, masculine, ritualistic call-and-response singing that sounds like it was performed by cave people in mammoth skins accompanied by icy synths.

20 years jamming together on a rock band vision pays off with heady punk rock party jams good for cruising through space on a starship, or relaxing in your sunken living room with your sex androids.
